Very first coin of the year is 1700's !!!

That stretch of unusually warm January weather here in New England created an opportunity for my first hunt of 2016. The very first coin I dug this year was a 1700's King George II Halfpenny. The back is toasted but it is soaking and I will hope to get a date. Also, managed two Colonial dandy buttons (one with shank), a thimble and a musket ball.

killer! congrats :icon_thumright:

WOW. Way to go!

The buckle is the oldest find of the day.

Nice finds and the KG is in fantastic condition!

Good for you, nice copper, great detail out of the hole makes it a lot more gratifying!

Nice old copper find! :occasion14:

Interestingly, last Sunday (during the beautiful weather) I found an old KG with the obverse in great detailed condition, but the reverse in poor condition. You never know!

Great finds, love the buttons

Congrats on those great finds.

Great copper but that buckle is a very early one. You're in a nice spot

There is plenty of detail left on the reverse. You need to clean that puppy up and show us a date. Hogge

Trying. It's been soaking for a week in mineral oil and I'm making no headway on it. That crust is on there like cement. :cussing:

Real nice counterfeit. I'd bet the date is 1752.
