Vintage military (?) leather helmet, please help in identifying. Thank you!

Hi to all. I scored this at a garage sale. The lady that I bought it from indicated that it was her husband's grandfather's. Do any of you have any idea where this is from? It's made of leather, as you can see the stitching on the inside, and can feel it on the outside as well . I do not know if it is really military or a vintage prop. All feedback is appreciated and thanked.
