So I have been doing a little research about the woods around my house since the HOA gave me permission to hunt them. So looking at. 1905 USGA topographical map it looked like there was a home site a short ways into the woods alongside a creek. So I had a little bit of time so I went in for a quick recon, I found an aloe plant and what appeared to be the remains of a road. So I am getting pumped that I may have something so I started circling around and there it was a cellar hole! Like I said I didn’t have much time so I took a couple of exploratory swings with my AT Pro and got a banging signal at the bottom of the cellar hole and found the buckle and right on the edge of the Whole was the bottle (Barker Moore & Mein Medicine, looks to be from 1880’s). A little more poking around and I pulled wait I believe to be part of an oil lamp, a gage of some sort, a large axe head, a mason jar lid (inside lid marked Consolidated Fruit Jar Company New York) the other Mason Jar doesn’t look that old and was surface find down near the creek. Like I said I was in a hurry so I just did some quick scans (lots of nails and trashy signals). I have never hunted a site like this so any advice is greatly appreciated!

Great permission. Nothing like a good spot close to home:thumbsup:

Nice finds. When 8 find a Cellar hole usually the bottom is filled with junk. Old and modern. Just never took the time to clean out and do some real searching. I normally grid of the sides going parallel with the hole using rocks and whatever is growing there fir guidance. I start with what I think is the back of the house. I seem to find more coins there. Maybe trips to the outhouse, laundry and such

Very Cool! You could be into something good.

Congratualtions on the nice finds! :occasion14:

Spend some quality time in that location...bet there are many goodies waiting for you to find! :icon_thumleft:

Sweet new-OLD permission mate. From your recon hunt I expect coins from the 1800's for sure. I would start working above the hole just cherry picking for non ferrous sweet signals. Once you get a nice old coin or two wild horses won't keep you from dragging every beep from that sight. Looks like you found the shackle and chain my ex used on me! Happy Hunting mate.

Great finds. :thumb_up:I think you did great. Just keep going back and back and back. Because detectors go deeper with moisture in the ground, just give it time.

Looks like a nice start. I would hunt it early in the Spring before the vegetation takes over. Also hunt it slowly for deep signals, and for many years until you find nothing at all. Dig all signals. There could be some very nice relics out there. Good luck.

Interesting finds

That bottle looks great. I have a bunch I need to clean but none seem to be as old as yours.
