Virginia Button Cleaned

After debating on cleaning or not cleaning this button...I decided to clean it.. There was so much plating still intact that made my decision easier...I'm not selling it so cleaning wasn't a big deal to me...Just didn't want to ruin it..Im happy with the results.

Well done with the cleaning, 2 piece buttons can be tricky. From the looks of it did you use aluminium jelly?

Vmiairpwr07----did use aluminum jelly...but this is a one piece Button. Very early one piece convex.

I don't think you have your guidelines right on what makes a button better even to question that because I can't imagine how anyone would think you took something away from it, and I don't even have to see a before picture. So of course you made the right call!

Thanks Iron Patch... You have given me great advice on cleaning methods in the past..You never stared me wrong....I have a lot of things still covered in dirt...I always say you can always clean it later...but you can never unclean it.

Yep. In fact just yesterday I started the lemon juice cleaning on the early button I found and after a few minutes yanked it knowing going further would hurt more than help... and glad I did, because once it dried out it's not really that bad... better than my pics anyway. Had I kept the cleaning going it would just be a dark button that wouldn't appear to have much on it unless you looked close.

That is a magnificent button, and you did a superb job of cleaning it! Did you soak it in something like distilled water after using the aluminum jelly on it? That would be in my top 3 finds easily.
