Want to try beach hunting, need tips

Just wondering what it takes to hunt a beach. Im in New York and would make a day of it going to Mass. and Conn. to the beaches. Can I go on any beach or do I have to find out exactly where im allowed. All these laws to stop metal detecting confuse me

Im in Upstate New York, outside of Utica. Trying to add a few more exciting places than my normal lawns and woods hunts.

Probable the best place anyone can start is The Golden Olde. "Check the Beach and Water Hunting" There is a TON of info there in one spot, read it first, then return and ask any questions..........
