Hey guys,

Been MIA for a few months with transitioning out of active duty and starting my airline gig. The year started out with a bang with a pair of rev war pewters from the SC 3rd as well as the King's 3rd American so that held me over, but just couldn't take the detecting hiatus any longer. Despite temps in the high 90s, I hit the water to return to some promising sites that had produced in the past. Given my absence, I was hoping new erosion over the last couple months might uncover a button or bullet. Needless to say I wasn't expecting 6 marked military pewters, and an ultra rare 1st Regiment of Infantry cuff. Here is the just dug picture of the pewters, nothing in situation as I was running from a thunderstorm :laughing7:

Bit of cleaning and a nice wax coat on the set

Here's the prize, a 1808-1811 1st Regiment of Infantry cuff. I dug its bigger brother at the same site back in 2015!

Also scored the US coat and cuff - the cuff looks like it was cast and dropped yesterday

Flat buttons, while this site is heaven for pewter, it eats brass alive

This was another killer finds, 1812 era partial sword guard

This little thing has me puzzled, anyone got any ideas?

That about covers the spread, another busy few months of training so I'll be living vicariously through you guys and your relic saves. Thanks for looking and have a great 4th!

P.S. - The part of a sword handle is just amazing, as sword handle parts are so infrequently posted on T-Net. I would display it in a small case with a background of the complete sword handle that shadows your find for illustrative purposes. I wonder what type of activity was occurring that left behind these artifacts. May I ask, did you dig it on the shoreline or scoop them in the water. I believe my area has potential, although modern debris would likely make it quite challenging.

Well done! I haven't figured out what conditions are best or worst for pewter, but your finds look good.

For sure, only draw back to water pewters is that bubbling occurs in the crust. The same crust though makes them incredibly stable.

Holy buttons batman. You went to button heaven and came back! Those buttons are amazing! I really like the cast u.s. button with the shank. Serious history represented here! Congrats on those. In my three years of detecting I only recently found some military buttons so I now have more of an understanding of how awesome those are!

I target the early sites so these buttons are the next best thing to rev war. Never understood why the 1812 era stuff doesn't get the attention of CW or Rev War...forgotten war indeed.

Awesome finds. It is interesting, we have found a lot of war of 1812 stuff too, at a couple different sites. Love the military buttons.

We fully expected the British to repeat Cornwallis's evasion during the southern campaign after the war kicked off. Guess they learned their lesson and hit New Orleans instead.
