It was an unusually warm weekend in the South. Sunday was a record high of 80 degrees! It was warm enough for this little fellow to come out and bask in the sun.

I hunted solo this weekend. I went to a few different places, mostly old house sites. I found over 150 coins, mostly modern. Just in case anyone is counting, I did manage to get 18 wheaties.

I eye balled a pirate rubber duckie and a yellow marble. I dug the Tootsie fire truck right next to the walkway from the front door. Apparently, he was on the way to a three alarm blaze, when he careened off of the walkway, and was lost in the grass!

Now, on to the shiny stuff!

I got a nice high signal, dug a plug, and could see the edge of a coin. It looked silver, but was really dark, so I wasn't sure that it was.

Turned out to be this 1955 quarter. It came from a low spot in the yard, where the water collected. Apparently, that caused the coin to develop a lot of tarnish. In my earlier days, I would have cleaned this coin, but I now prefer them in "as found" condition. Welcome home, George!

Thanks for looking, and best of luck on your hunts!

Congratualtions on the nice silver and wheat cent finds! :occasion14:

With all of the snow in Massachusetts, best I did was a Buffalo nickel in my change from a gas station...I'll take it! :icon_thumleft:

Looks like you had a good hunt. Finding silver is so much fun!! That quarter is really cool! That little lizard is pretty cool too. :icon_thumright: nice job digging some cool relics!!

Congrats on the silver and wheats, looks like a fun hunt

Congratulations on the digs! The GW is on my hit list.

Grats, Tom. I managed to get out myself to a spot...I was late to the party as plugs everywhere. I went real slow and managed 8 wheats and kind of a bucket lister...1908s IHP. (bucket lister=IHP with mint mark) Just one year off of the elusive 09s.

Congrats on the big-ish silver. I found an ox knob and a rock this weekend.

Nice Tom. I couldn't imagine hunting in a T-shirt. Still awaiting the snow cover to melt in NJ

Congrats on a great solo hunt Tom. :icon_thumright: i recon you went into the neighborhood next to the old torn down projects we have hunted. :dontknow:

Nice digs, Tom........always like finding intact Tootsies.
Even in the 30 degree weather we are having up here, finding silver warms up the day just right!! Congratulations.............:icon_thumright:

I got out last week before getting huge snow. We now have over a foot, and wind is howling.

But stuck indoors, I finally fixed my avatar after months of procrastinating. Not my house...I wish...but I also drive an old Ford :)....and I sometimes take it on hunts; another pic below shows the detector sitting in the grass by the car, back in November.

I hunted in shorts and a T shirt... had to quit a 1:00, as I was too hot!

Actually... I "stumbled" upon a set of 1940/50s duplexes that are slated to be demolished, there is a half of a block of them, probably 20 or so homes. They will not be there long, the bull dozers are on site already. After getting permission, I just went straight down the street through the front yards, some trashy, some not so trashy. It might still be huntable next weekend... we will see.

Nice finds. The silver is always welcome and 150 coins must have been a tiring day of digging. Also a nice pile of wheats. I'll bet there is some more silver there.

Carolina Tom, any chance they will let you sweep through after the dozers have come through and moved the building out, as long as they have not taken too far down or piled it all on top of the good hunt areas? Who knows what might be below or exposed when they clear the buildings away. May be worth an ask, even if it is just for a bit before they shut they site down after the dozers have quit? Nice quarter as it is, I wouldn't clean it.

Glad to see you enjoy the weather. It was nice here in the valley too. Not so much know. I like the duck![emoji12]

Nice work buddy, you know me, I hate tarnish, I'd break out my hillbilly zapper and have that Quarter looking like it was new again. I'm glad you like em "just found" looks good. Quarters are nice finds too, I feel much richer when I get a Quarter even clad Quarters. But a silver Quarter makes me feel like Rockefeller! I'd be panting like a dog in your heat wave. If it's warm by the time you guys make it up here (I'm betting it'll be in the 80's) we'll all be getting on my boat going to my new hot spot on the Delaware River. You know the waterways were the highways back in the 1600's I think I know where Blackbeard was hanging out?

Sounds like you'll be busy all week and through this coming weekend.

The construction workers are not there on Sunday, so that's the time to hit the place. I "prefer" hunting prior to the dozing. They smash the houses into piles, then scoop them into dump trucks and haul the mess away. This makes a big mess and scatters trash everywhere. I'm lazy and old, so I prefer the easier hunt.

I will return next weekend, and see what is left to hunt!

Thanks man!

Thanks Brad. I look forward to seeing YOU in a couple of months brother!
