Warning, if you purchase a detector using PayPal do not use the gift status, it gives you no protection if item bought is not delivered. For member's protection, any reference to use of Paypal gift option in future Sale Ads will be deleted.

Member Motherlode Mike banned for ripping off member who bought a detector from him that was paid for and never delivered.

That’s complete BS. Thank you TH for banning that punk. In times like this money is everything to everyone, and what money we do have we expect it to go to something we really want or need. Motherload Mike is a thug. I have no respect for anyone who does that to another member. I’ve never used PP gifts for this reason alone. Jared aka broken_detector had that problem when he sold a $500 item to someone. They got their detector then bounced back and said they didn’t receive it. So Jared lost his detector and his money when PP decided to side with buyer eventhough Jared had proof that the item was picked up and via signature required had the guys name on it

It’s this stuff that has me gun shy about buying from here and another forum. I see cool stuff but I cannot risk losing in something I have to scrimp and save for.

If you use Paypal to pay your protected by paypal if item is not delivered but if you use paypal's gift option there is no protection as it is a gift.

If you see something advertised on a forum for sale that is of interest to you, ask around about the seller. Most folks on a forum will know something about them if they have been around for awhile. If the seller is indeed legit, I don't think they should have a problem with folks checking. I have sold and traded several detectors on several forums in the past, and I wouldn't think anything of anyone checking up as to my honesty. In today's world it is the smart thing to do.

Not exactly... they say they guarantee it but what they mean is they will guarantee to get your money back unless the account that you sent it to has been closed and they can't get the money back out of that account that they put it into...
I thought that I was safe with paypal.... They looked into it for a year and never returned my "guaranteed funds", just gave me excuses. First I was told to wait a little longer... then they told me that it was too late a week later and that they were sorry...
And that was a guaranteed safe ebay auction... Nothing is guaranteed, read the fine print.

You stumbled into one of those snakes hiding in the weeds.

Me? I've purchased a number of items from members here, and I think I've sold a number too. Have never had a problem.

However, I do pay attention prior to sending my gooberment retirement pennies anywhere. Has to be somebody I feel like I can trust. Don't let that "incredible deal" blind your senses.....

I don’t have a lot of extra money, so I play it safe. I am sure it has cost me more because I see some deals here that had me almost on the hook!

Didnt say guaranteed, only thing guaranteed is death and taxes:tongue3:, but you are much more protected than PayPal gift which has no protection at all.

I left the hobby in the middle to late 80's, and my Garrett ADS and Tesoro Royal Sabre were long gone. Divorce years and I don't remember what happened to the originals. But over my few years on here I've always watched the For Sale forums. Replaced those two lost relics from members here. Thus now I have every model of detector I've ever owned in my stable now. It doesn't matter whether I use them or not, I have them babies back = my history :)

Made me happy :)

I regret selling my ugly maroon coinmaster. I thought it was terrible but it turns out I didn’t know what I was doing.

Watch the For Sale forums my friend! Maybe someday the ugly coinmaster might show up on there. Won't matter whether you use it or not, you'll have your history back :)

Wonder if having my history back would get me that 61 corvette I had

That Mike was a dirty motherloader.......

Probably not Jeff, but when would we ever wish to give up on our dreams?

I can't do that my friend = good Lord = me thinks I'm getting old now....

What ever?

I agree with Deepseeker. I've had nothing but great transactions here.....but, it just takes one idiot to ruin a rep. Reminds me of the few thiefs who ran off after fueling up leaving the honest people with Prepay everywhere.

Jeff, that was my dreams Man!!! Rt. 66, think they started with one of them, and I was just a cherub....

I’m the same way, had nothing but an amazing experience on here for over 12 years. You have to figure out the newbies from the vets on here or if they seem legit. You can generally do that by looking at their thread count or even their basic interactions with others on here. If someone acts like a you know what on here then chances are I’m not going to buy from them. Also on another note on something you mentioned, the prepay crap makes me angry because I’ve used a gas station here in town since high school, never prepaid, and one idiot screws it up. Two weeks ago I had my back surgery and apparently while I was out of commission someone pulled this crap and I get out yesterday waiting for them to turn the pump on like usual and I look in the window and they’re waving me in. I had to grab my cane, walk in, hear them give me the crappy news and then have to guess how much I was going to need to fill up.

I was the one that got cheated TH is referring to. He was asking for $ 550 for the detector I even sent him a extra 25 dollars to cover his shipping. I have filed A claim with the FBI and am also looking at other options. The MODS on here do EVERYTHING they can to make this a fun and safe forum. I THANK each one of them for there efforts !!!
I will also add this person sells dirt that is supposed to have gold in it. He also writes stories for some prospecting magazines.

WE CAN NOT GO THROUGH LIFE AND NOT MEET A FEW BAD PEOPLE .I am not going to let this ruin my outlook on other people. I think the GOOD PEOPLE out number the bad people by a LARGE NUMBERS

Its always a gamble with anything. Lucky for me, I only lost 35 bucks in the early days of Ebay...back then it was the wild west of the internet.
Just check the person you are buying from. Even face to face sales can be a rip off.
