Still trying to get a date on my new site, the dateable things I’ve found so far are square nails, a civil war era cavalry button, a spoon possibly from the same era based on shape, and a shield nickel unfortunately with an unreadable date. I think I’m on a mid to late 1800’s site. I found this the other day I would bet it’s a watch link but wrist watches by my research weren’t really common until WWI. That doesn’t really fit the other objects. I’m wondering if anybody knows if this kind of link was used on anything else... or If it even is a link.

I looked at this for a few minutes.

I don't get the sense it is a link of any kind. Maybe a part of some funky type of suspender buckle or adjuster?
