Hello,

You will get several suggestions. I'm using minelab Excal 1000 and was considering Tesoro Tirger Shark for its reviews and lifetime warranty till the deal on the Excal came along. Also used and liked my Whites Beach Hunter ID.

Love my Excal! ;D

Stand by for suggestions from more knowledgeable hunters.

I have 3 used water detectors on hand if you're interested.
You can call me at 860-623-1153
Thanks

I have a few water detectors and can say without a doubt that the PI detectors are very deep for hunting the sifting sands of a coast. However, they have almost no discrimination and you will dig deep holes for wire bread wrappers, etc. My favorites are the Excal 1000 and the Tiger Shark. Tony can help you further. Good Luck,

Sandman

excal - can't go wrong -

If you want to stick with Garrett, I have the Sea Hunter MKII that is a PI machine. It does have some discrimination if you want it and the set up is very simple and easy to operate. Water proof to 200' is what is advertised if you are a diver, but I just hunt shallow water. It will go extremely deep in wet sand and dry sand if you are not a diver. Monty

I was hunting a low tide in Daytona Beach last night about 9pm, in water waist deep with 2-3 foot surf, I got a small signal in the side wall of a trough that was about 18 inches deep. After fighting the surf crashing on my back for about 5 minutes :o, I was able to findly get it in my scoop. It turned out to be a Pulsar Solar watch, with the band broke. It says warter resist to 100M. I looked it up, not a real expensive watch, you can get them for $75 on sale, but it made the hunt successful. (Also got $3.31 in clad)

Love my Excall (1000) ;D

Well I finally order a detector there was a dealer selling some overstock detectors brandnew so I got a great deal on a new Whites PI PRO. Now for a backup might go with a tigershark for freash water that should cover most bases.

after you get your pi pro and get used to the machine, give mr bill a call at surfscanner detectors. He does some modificaitons to certain pi machines that tremendously increase depth. well worth the time and money. He did my surfmaster pi and it was picking out coins and chains at 18 inches plus.

Txglennr, the Tiger Shark is not just for fresh water as it has a Saltwater mode switch. It is one of the few VLF's that locate gold chains.

Can you tell me more about getting whites PI's worked over by Mr Bill. What does he do to them to make them go deeper? I have heard something about changing 25us to 15us or the other way around.

Have you really found chains after having yours worked on, I have only found chains when a pendant was still attached.

Also would it affect having the unit serviced by whites if something else went wrong with the unit?

What would be the cost of having this worked done.

I am also wondering if anyone out there has put a lot of time on a Fisher Impulse and is so .. how did they like it?
I have been using a whites surfmaster PI for 15 years, looking to purchase another PI to have a backup or primary if it is better. Worried a little about bounty hunter buying Fisher and how they will service the fisher machine.
I never have used a Tesoro but here good things about the sand shark. But in this hobby the majority of people always talk good about their machines.

$85 for the modifications to your machine Tom. Haven't heard of anyone taking up his offer to return the machine to its original state if they are not happy.
Drop the uS setting and you improve sensitivity with no drawbacks except with a deep diving P.I. of any brand because in really deep water you need a higher uS. This is why the J.W.Fisher P.I.'s are not the best for shallow water or on the beach use.
The Fisher Impulse ( same designer as the T2) I always thought was overpriced for the performance it offered. Great battery consumption due to the current in the coil being in effect recycled.
Glenn either of the P.I.'s you mention are good with the Whites being more reliable in its hardware. The Detector Pro Headhunters need a little more care with the exposed wires of the headset.
Whites pinpoint best but the iron I.D. is a little better/easier with the Headhunter.

Thanks for the infomation Brian.

Is what Tony saying, that the New PI pro's already have the change Mr Bill would be doing, or does Bill do more?
I read through both my manual and the PI pro on line and don't really see any difference. To me it see like if they made big changes over the old machine, then they should let you know what it is .. I better go back to the site and see if they list the specs.

I like my surfmaster PI so much I am not sure I would want anyone making changes to it, but would consider buying another one and having work done to it.

I think I will stay away from the fisher, from what sandman says, I am getting a bad feeling about what Bounty Hunter might do, as far as parts and repair.

From reading the manual for the Tiger Shark, they talk about being able to adjust the "pulse width" would this be basically the same thing Mr Bill would do to my whites PI? Or am I way off base? Has anyone had any problems with the Tesoro Sand/Tiger Shark as far as water damage or headphone also in the picture the rod doesn't seem as strong as on the whites water machine, just a observation. I am asking because I am really interested in buying another PI ...

The upgrade that mr bill does to the pi machines (white's anyway) brings the older machines current and the same as the new machines. the new PI Pros already have the "modification".

he also does similar mods to different machines

steve

Thanks Steve ... good to know that about the PI pro

Mr. Bill is a good man to do business with that also were I got my Detectorpro Headhunter Diver
