I walked into a bank and asked for a dime box and whatever half dollars they had. The teller said she had $7 loose but that they are requred to searched all the half dollars for silver and keep them. Another teller had $100 in rolls. I bought it all.

$7 loose: skunk
$40 in CWR: skunk
$60 in Loomis MWR: 1966x2

What do you do when a teller says we search and keep all the silver?
How do you know if you are buying someone elses skunky dumps?

You buy them and search them. Otherwise, you'll never know!!

I would say, "Yea, cool, do you ever find some good stuff?"

I would imagine you could only work in a bank for a short time before your interest gets going about old coins, collectibles, silver, etc. From my experience there are certain chains of banks that have more tellers searching, and one in particular where I have found many coins in teller's trays....I think this bank may have stricter rules about tellers buying currency.

I made friends today with a teller who did some CRHing and buying finds from customers. I think I have a really good new connection to buy boxes of dimes from when I need em. She was telling me that she hears that silver dropping in the Penny Arcade all the time.

"We are required to search all the half dollars for silver and keep them". What a crock! Required by who, the traveling gold and silver buyers? (They are actually setting up shop and bilk-I mean buying coins now inside local banks here). Many banks have some policy here in Mich that requires them to turn away known collections and bulk silver coin deposits. There is no reqirement for the tellers to search silver unless for their own benefit, and I have no problem with that, as I would do the same.
