I finally got a chance to turn a business trip into a digging pleasure. While cleaning the loft in my barn last week,, I came across some interesting items. One of which was 15 cases of wine bottles for bottling home made wine. They sell for around $12 a case on line,, so I advertised them for $5 a case on the "On Line Garage Sales." I got a few bites and then one fellow who was selling a mini fridge for $40 said he was willing to give me $40, plus the fridge. I need the fridge for my pigeon loft. I told him I would deliver it if we could hunt his property. He agreed.
His house was built in 1998. It was built on property that was part of a farm since the 1800's. You just never know what you're going to find.
The day also included a park hunt and another private property. Aside from clad, I recovered a wheat penny, and an old pocket watch, but this first property produced a really cool badge.
The badge is a brass Detective Sergeant badge that was given away in a contest run by POST CEREALS, in 1932. I really like the way it cleaned up.

Thats a really great piece! So COOL! Congratulations :occasion14:

That is so cool. Solid brass. No cheapass plastic stamped "Made in China" crap back then. Kids wouldn't thump a booger at something like that nowadays, but back then, and smack dab in the pits of the Great Depression, that prize had to have been like a million dollars to the kid that won it. Can you just imagine the child's excitement when something came in the mail from Post Cereal Company? Just like WWII veterans, folks that lived through the Depression are becoming fewer and fewer in number with each passing day. So many young folks today are so self-absorbed and unappreciative, totally unaware of just how good they really have it, and just how bad things could be. I shudder to think of how quickly conditions will deteriorate if the poop hits the fan again, considering the fact that the great majority of folks had a strong moral compass back then which played a huge factor in keeping this nation from self-destructing.

Great find, Wind.
