I got permission to detect a property that is currently owned by a ski resort. At one time, it was a farm, but now the house is pretty dilapidated and used primarily for storage of junk. The latch was found at about a foot down in the area of the front door. I'm guessing that it may be from the screen door.. It seems to me to be from the Art Deco period. On the back, are the numbers 4038-9 and below it a diamond shape with letters that are possibly OHRH. There is a fair amount of corrosion, so I can't be sure of the letters. I also found the wheels of a toy car and that wiry thing that made me think it may be the inside of a doll or action figure with bendable limbs..see the arms, legs and headless neck??

Nice finds artemis moon!

Id like to see pics inside the derelict building....did the owners say you could poke around in there?

I was thinking last night that I should have taken some photos of the old house. I'll do that the next time I pass it! Yes, I did get permission from the manager of the ski resort to detect there, but not to go inside the house. The stone foundation has large gaps where you can look underneath the building and into the basement, which is filled with debris. I'm not that adventurous!

Neat variety of finds there, happy hunting to ya! CARM

Turns out that the latch is from an icebox from the 20's - 30's. The RH that's on the back probably stands for "Right Hand".
