Got out this weekend and found a little something. Not much, but figured some may appreciate the view.

Not to bad at all. I like that black rhyolite blade/preform, very nice! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks a lot for the view. The black one is worked on both sides. The first pic of it is the top side and the bottom is shown in pic 2. Would a preform be worked on both sides? I get confused by the term preform. I ask because a friend of mine referred to this piece as a preform. Seems to be worked down a bit too much for a preform to me, but I really don't know. I bet it was pretty when it had it's gloss. Time has taken it though. The first scraper may be a first for me. I can't recall ever finding one napped around the top like that one. Larson has sent me a few with that style, but his were honestly much prettier. Thanks again!!

A perform can definitely be worked on both sides. Perform Simply means A rough shape of the final object was made. the finishing touches like notching and final pressure flaking to be done later.

I believe preforms were used as tools like knifes or scrapers till they decided to go further with it. Is the edges sharp?

Rock..did you read the web page? I'm only trying to help you. I have seen hundreds of points knapped. I have tried several times and did OK but its definitely not my strong point. It really helps ...to help you have a broader understanding of how stone behaves. And know what to look for and what to dismiss.. as far as something being a finished tool or just a flake. You should see all the things that could be mistaken for finished tools in the pile on the ground around someone knapping several stone tools or points

Ahhhh ha ha ha snort ha ha! Rock got you! You got to hand it over bro!! " I don't knapp, do you" after busting his pecans about dealing, and I stood with you doing it, you bust out a piece you made. I know, I know, if you were a phony crook, you wouldn't have been straight up about it. Hats off to you for being a man about it, but reading this, it was straight funny to me bro! I love you guys! I needed that laugh!! By the way beautiful piece you made, and not a bad idea to learn the art. I have said it time and time again, we very well could have the need for these tools in our life. For our survival.

I have to say you lost me there bro.. were you talking to Rock..Me..or both? That is one of about five points I knapped several years ago. I've never bought or sold an artifact in my life.

Really both. Well, really myself included, perhaps myself more than any of us. I have talked, not really down on buying and selling, but let it be known that I really don't agree with it. I also spoke out against reproductions hardcore. I just thought the way Rock replied to your post about napping was funny. Just scroll up and reread a couple of the post between you two. He got not just you there, but me as well. I just read it and it came across funny. No harm in it.

I still don't get what you're saying.. I'm the 1 who knapped the Obsidian point and posted it after he questioned whether or not I knew anything about knapping

The reason I asked was I have seen some you posted that well I cant say and thought maybe. Well now I know. I am not saying anything negative on it but there is a certain look to the others.

Cool thumb scraper and knives. :icon_thumleft:

@ NC is the fat end or the base of it ground down at all? Might be a tool type. Sure is pretty material.
