I was able to slip out over the weekend for a bit of hunting, it aint like the North, but it's better than a stick in the eye.

Saturday:
I went after lunch to do a bit of swinging. Of course, the Deus found a bunch of wheat cents, eight to be exact. Just before it was time to head home, a beat up OD Nickel got under the coil. As soon as I saw it, I smiled and thought of our hero.

Sunday:
Todd Lipe invited me to go on one of his "guaranteed to find silver coins" hunts. I am such a sucker, I fall for this trick every time. We hit a couple of spots, one of them yielded some decent finds. I was able to locate:
- 2 flat buttons. One is HUGE! Neither has a loop.
- 8 wheat cents.
- Play money
- Imperial Japanese 50 sen! Made between 1928-1938, 4.95 grams of .720 silver. Unfortunately, I hit the coin during extraction. I cleaned the coin with baking soda, as it was a bit stained. I figure that a returning WWII soldier brought it home with him as a souvenir... or a Jap spy dropped it, whilst trying to steal BBQ secrets in NC!

YTD silver coins: 63.

Thanks for looking, and best of luck on your hunts!

You've passed last years silver coin count and still have over 3 months to hunt. I say you shoot for 100 this year!! Love the Japanese silver coin.

That's a heck of a find. Especially since it was from a spy checking out BBQ. Some coins just have fantastic histories, like that. I have one, that was dropped by the Pope, picked up by a small child, and left in a front yard. I've got another one that was carried by Buzz Aldren, spent on a Coke at a convenience store, and eventually made it's way into our city park about 8 years ago.

The stories behind coins are the best part. Even if we have to make them up. :)
