Weird 1944 Lincoln wheat penny

My fiance brought it home in her change and it's a1944 Lincoln wheat penny but it's smaller than a normal penny and thicker, any idea why and what is it worth?

It reminds me of dimes I've found where the edges are raised...I can't remember if it occurred from natural wear and tear purposely manipulated though...

That would account for the "thicker" description but not the "smaller" description, I agree with others that it is caused by either being stuck in a dryer or done with tapping the edge with a spoon.

My washer does that to change that slips down in this recessed ring around the agitator.

I have to agree with Tamrock. My washer does the same thing if I do not check for coins regularly.

If the diameter was the same as other cents, I would then agree with ARC. I have several finned cents, most from the 1970s.
