Went metal detecting today for about an hour and a half. Dug an aluminum clasp and a copper penny. Then I got a good signal and tried to dig it, but it was too deep, and there was too much heat. So I ran away and got a can of cold beer and I am now cooling down at home in an Air Con environment. This time I will leave the target, and if I go over the area again with cooler weather I will retrieve it (maybe). It is probably another piece of aluminum dross. A piece of what? A piece of melted aluminum. Who is melting aluminum and why? I don't know, your guess is a good as mine.

Update. The so called copper penny was checked on a VDI machine, and it turns out to be a zinc. OK, you can stop rolling your eyes now.

We use to have keg parties when I was in high school in the woods. We burned everything, people dumped in the woods we cleaned it up, we would burn couches, mattresses etc. This gas station at the entrance of our neighborhood was a VW specialist. He dumped in the woods, we would melt the aluminum heads just to watch them melt. We even melted what looked like a Chrysler gutted 727 trans, a few people said it would never melt, but we watched it turn to moosh. When we went back the next day and looked there was all king of big ingots, that looked like silver all over the place, they were even real shiny. Just sharing my story.

AHA! Where ever there are young people with keggers and beers cans, there is surely to be much melted aluminum then. When I was a young punk, we would go fishing and start a fire, but only to cook the fish. We never thought to melt our beer cans.

Yes our Aluminum targets would not be deep at all. It brings back memories of the early 80's a quarter kag of Miller was 19.99 tatal, no sales tax it was Delaware, we would charge 2 bucks a person, we would get the 2nd keg before 1 AM , that is last call in DE, the heavyweights like myself would see the sunrise, We would go to the 7-11 at the entrance of our neighborhood staggering and smelling like smoke from the bonfire at 6 AM. The old lady working there that knew us since kids would be saying look at these messes, lol.
