So, I went hunting at a friend's farm yesterday!
I hunted in the woods, in the fields, all around a very overgrown property.....looking for some CW relics, and whathaveyou....
I must have walked miles today, beautiful sunshine and 80 degrees, we could not have asked for more....ok, some more beer...but that's it.
I had just found a civil war graveyard, complete with detailed headstones....(I did not have my real camera, just my cell phone...so I could not get great pics of that)......and I was headed back to the truck....on an old road in the woods.....I saw a relatively large old tree to my right, about ten feet off the road....sure enough, I got a signal in the mid twenties, and I think in the thirties. It said it was possibly foil or pulltab. It was about a four inch deep signal.....very root infested area, just under the surface at about three inches, I get this:

THANKS to PBK for ID'ing that hallmark!

looks like my ring is from the twenties!

:icon_sunny: THANKS again for a FANTASTIC FORUM :icon_sunny:

I love this place, great info, great people, great finds!

Most excellent find  . One could only wonder how a ring like that wound up in the middle of the woods. Can't wait to see the photos of the old graveyard...

Dorkyguy....beautiful ring you found there.....don't cha' love searching around those root infested trees?

I am also very big on perserving history, esp grave sites...if you get info on the headstones...I can do some research for you on the individuals and see what I can find. That would be so nice of you to clear the area....so many of these sites are so neglected and/or forgotton...very sad. Those gravestones you found may also be someone that someone is researching for their long lost relatives. I could even post, with your permission, their names and any research I can locate on my website. I have a genealogy site, mostly for the Hampton Roads area ... but would be happy to post anything...incase someone was looking for a long lost relative. You would be given credit for locating the site, clearing it and recording it's headstones.

I love stuff like this...that is why metal detecting is so much fun!!! It's all about the history and of those who walked before us and paved the way!

Good luck and hope you find lots of wonderful items at this site.

yardqueen,
the graveyard was in pretty bad disrepair, overgrown and about two hundred yards from where I found the ring.
I think if I go back, I'll take some shears and trim up the grass a bit and take some pics.
A shame it was in such disrepair, but the headstone readings were fantastic.
It is pretty far from where we park, but I promise to take pics the next time I am out there.
cheers
DG

Thanks for the reply. Am looking forward to the pics.
(I wanna hear more cowbell!) ;D

Very nice 18Ker!!!!!!! Congrats!

Congratulations on the ring. I am going to have to hunt the woods better if that is the type of things that are waiting to be found. I do like finding old shotgun shells though.
