Hey everyone,

Crazy unexpected find today. Started off a 6 hr hunt with my 2nd plug of the day pulling a 1976 canada proof coin still in plastic capsule.

I had just stepped into the woods and dug a wheat cent. A few moments later I caught a solid 36 and I could tell it was deep.

I opened up a 10 inch hole ran the nox with 15 inch coil over the target and was getting a solid tone.

One more scoop of dirt and i see a flash of silver and its big. I'm thinking peace dollar.

I pick it up start glove rubbing it to death and finally I see canada come through.

I'm like damn who buried this coin a foot deep and left this here.

Sent a few texts to my kids and bro and was pretty pumped. Even though it wasn't old still a heck of a silver coin at 48 grams.

Had a bit of a hard time concentrating after that but continued the hunt.

Recovered a silver ring old moose pin silver and a nice sterling cuff link.

A few old coins rounded out the day. Indian a few wheats token etc.

These few silvers put me at 102 on the season. Was nice to meet my goal with a few months to spare.

Never know what is going to come up next out there.

Thanks for looking

I had to scratch the noodle for a tad as the coin wasn't a silver dollar as it wouldn't be that weight and the date threw me off.
So it is a non-circulating coinage $10 silver. :occasion14:
Congrats on the honker, liking the Elks pin as well.
Here's the details on the coin.

What a great bunch of finds! I love the old elk pin and old brooch!

As PepperJ notes, it has to be one of the Montreal Olympic coins. Mind throwing a pic of the back up? They came with different reverses. There were also $5 and $10 but the $5 was half the weight of yours obviously.

Should put it back in the capsule too. I have one of those and it’s hard to find holders to protect it.

Thank you for the comments and info on the coin.

I knew when I pulled it out of the ground it was bigger than a silver dollar. Then I saw 10.00 on the back side and knew I had something.

Crazy what ends up in the ground and for reasons we will never know.

I had to open up the capsule didn't want to. But it did get a little moisture and dirt trapped in there over the yrs. I will try and locate a nice new capsule if I can.

Yes,

I sent a few texts from the woods. I don't normally do that unless it's something out of the ordinary.

The Elks pin was a pretty cool find I agree. This year is taking a lot of time for things to die out here.

Hope to be back soon with some more to show.

Wow...a 100 + silvers in a year is absolutely outstanding ( and really hard to do IMHO).
Congratulations. I wish you much luck in the remaining three months of the year!

Thank you Monkey.

Yeah it's no easy feat that's for sure. It can be done though if you stay dedicated throughout the yr.

We also have to come up with a lot of good sites to do it also. Get a few here and there and they add up over time.

I try to recover at least one piece per hunt. Key is to put yourself in areas where silver can be found.

In the past 20 seasons that's all I have records my avg is 100 silvers per season.

I had 144 last yr. Don't think I will catch that number.
