hey guys, got a question for everyone. What do you do to avoid wet knees when detecting on wet or damp grasses? I've been trying to use a shirt as to prevent getting soaking wet knees, but after about an hour the shirt itself is wet enough that it gets through to my pants. I thought about carring a piece of carpeting around, but it was heavy and not easily carried. I know some people have kneepads, such as a construction worker or carpert layer would use, but I dont want to have those on all the time. I was prehaps thinking about wrapping plastic sacks around my legs, but wanted to find out what everyone else is doing to avoid the dreaded wet knee look.

I use knee pads. Usually I just wear one and just squat down on that knee. It is comfortable and does not bother me. Also this time of year I wear shorts a lot and the knee pad protects my knees from the rough ground. If you don't want to wear knee pads then the only thing that I can think of would be to carry around something to lay down. I personally don't want to carry any more than I have to. I would recommend trying the knee pads.

Well you wouldn't want to do this in the heat of the summer but you could put on a pair of rain pants :dontknow: For now, just go get one of those padded foam mats that gardeners use. They are not big at all and they're waterproof

I here by give you permission to be as dirty as you want to be! ;D

great choice if you don't want knee pads.

Too funny :laughing9: :laughing9:

I make my kids dig. When they are in school I drag my grandmother out and make her dig. ;D

I guess you might have to choose the lesser of several evils here.

I use the "construction" type of knee pads and they do keep the mud
off your knees but. . . on a warm day, they do hold in the perspiration so
your pants area around your knee will be always wet.

One of my hunting buddies uses a gardner's foam pad to keep his pant knees
dry & clean but they are a pain to carry around so. . . I leave it up to you to
decide what is the lesser of these evils :P

I also might add that when I'm finding cool stuff, I really don't care
how I look at the end of a hunt. . . (unless I'm late for dinner at a fancy
restaurant with the wife ::))

knee pad also....Matt

I use a small Friesbee{sp} about 10" in diameter..I carry a hand towel in my rear pocket which I place in the friesbee..

I also use the towel to wipe my hands off and clean digger tool etc..

I also use the Friesbee to place dirt from a plug in sometimes when they come apart on me or when I dont want to have a mess all over good grass, it also keeps the target in place instead of hunting it in tall grass..I just cut about an inch or so out of the lip to dump the dirt right back in the hole...

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys. I visited my mom this Friday, and she had an extra foam knee pad that she cant use anymore, its really light weight, and fits perfectly in my trash bag that I carry with me when Im hunting. Problem resolved. Thanks again for all the suggestions. :)

I SAW you one day! That knee pad is PINK ain't it?? (just kidding!) I just get wet. I get into a mindset when md'ing that tells me, Whatever it takes!" And if those pennies mean getting wet, then so be it. TTC
