Tried a little bit of a different way to get the wet look on a botryoidal druzy specimen I didn't mind sacrificing, opinions would be greatly appreciated, good or bad. Thx

Its permanent, the wet look, this would actually be a easy specimen for lapidary, just cut the shape desired, round, oval, heart etc and your cab is done.

Thanks DDancer, I thought it came out pretty good but I was afraid I'd get looks like **** comments lol, usually when you do something yourself you have a favorable bias so you need honest opinions from others to know for sure.

No I forgot to take a picture darn it, but it didn't look very pretty dry, that was why I was willing to sacrifice it.

I think your wet look brings out the coral coloration in your sample nicely!

I used rustoleum gloss ×2 non yellowing uv resistant but this time I used my air compressor and made sure nothing clumped up anywhere, it's a lot faster and cheaper than buying a lot of acetone, but beware, do it outside only and wear a good respirator! I just did a batch on some other's, I'll post some pictures.

It's a spray clear gloss non yellowing uv resistant, it's for any surface, it works best on crystals or druzy specimens, I just did this freeform, I used it on the druzy only and taped the rest of the stone off. 20190906_113102.jpg 20190906_114651.jpg 20190906_114929.jpg 20190906_113406.jpg 20190906_113535.jpg

I like the stuff, if you notice dust or anything collecting after a while you can just rinse the stone off right in the sink then stick it back on your shelf, I myself have a few I did a few years ago and they look like I just did them, I've only ever used rustoleum gloss ×2 uv resistant non yellowing though. If my specimen is bigger quartz crystal clusters, I go with the rustoleum universal high gloss, makes the crytals almost blinding with sparkles and not cheesy looking, turns out really good, you just have to practice your spraying techniques, not to much and not to little.
