Spent a few hours in between obligations of work and hit some of the more heavily detected beaches. Tried the dry sand for an hour, came up with a few dozen bottle caps and pull tabs. Watched another detectorist pulling up targets and tossing them back down or throwing them toward the dunes. Wandered to a few of his holes which he had left open to see his targets sitting right next to the pile of sand he dug up. Mostly bottle caps. Pissed me right off, but I just covered the few holes I checked and took the bottle caps home. Surf was a little rough for me to hit the cut at low tide line so just hit the wet sand. After the few hours of being out enjoying the view, found this day destroyer,

Few modern clad coins, multiple fish hooks and sinkers,

And this 10k gold band, unsure about the stones currently.

Great day, but next time I may have to say something to that detectorist about general etiquette.
Thanks for viewing and be safe out in your area.

Nice find hubcap. I came across one of "those inconsiderate MD'ers" - I walked up to him and said "would it break you arm to at least pick up the trash" rather then just leave it? You are the reason we have problems getting people to let us MD their property. I didn't give him a chance to respond with a wise crack - I immediately turned around and kept walking.

I would've spoke right up. My words would have been, "pick up your garbage you freakin dirtbag, what's wrong with you?" And it wouldn't be the first time. It becomes yours (good or bad) once you dig it up. People like that guy are a disgrace and shouldn't even be allowed to own a metal detector.

Enlarged pic of ring to get better look -- it's a beauty! Very nice setting. :hello2: What is the other object? Andi

Normally I am the first fella to give someone like that a rash of direct verbal just wasn't feeling it that day. Ended up picking a lot of the targets left behind as I was filling holes. Seems to be common at this beach.

I will upload a better close up when I am completed pouring this ac pad for a client.

I am an oddball fella and usually have no hesitation calling someone out on stupid, immoral, or down right dumb behavior, just didn't want to deal with it that day

Nice ring. At least most people fill their holes and remove the trash...

Andi, the other object is a home made surf fishing sinker, they attach the metal prongs through a tube feeding the leader through it to secure the weight, so this will basically drag like an anchor in the sand so the bait is able to move about with the current, other wise the weight would just sink into the sand and bait has limited movement. Good for fishing, terrible to step on. Not 5 feet from shoreline on a heavily used public beach.

Here are updated photos for you as well.

Beautiful ring !

Choice ring! Even if only 10k it might be worth checking the stone out. It looks dirty enough to be real. :o Carbon-based oils, tar, soap, and other goo will stick to diamonds in the surf and build up over time. I once found a ring that had a ball of black where the stone was, and when I cleaned it up I found a 1/4 ct. marquise cut natural diamond! Good luck with that!

And I'm hoping that 'day destroyer' didn't destroy yours! :4leafclover:

Pretty, pretty, ring! 8-) Any luck with identifying the stone? Could be white sapphire, zircon ("Matura" diamond) or cubic zirconia, but I am no gemologist, so those are just a guess.

Fishing lure is interesting. I agree, I'd hate to step on one of those.

Lots of junk on the beach, too. I usually pick up as much trash as I can when I am out beach hunting. I figure that I don't want to detect it again next time I'm there, so why not just pick it up. Can't understand the folks who don't pick-up their trash finds. Oh well....

HH,
Anita

Nice, congrats!

congrats on the nice ring!! hopefully the diamond will be real!

Nice find but in my eyes.. if you can dig the hole you can fill it regardless of what you found. Karma will get him. He will step on a bottle cap tossed aside by another person like him sometime and it won't feel good.
