I have found these in the past as many know. For some reason I just love them so much. They are very worthy of a post. Maybe because they are from my home town. Or perhaps people didn't even know they existed until I found a few. I think I have around 7 of these wonderful time pieces now. As I have discovered, and to my knowledge and surprise, they were handed out as proof of purchase to enter the ship to explore. They were also available for purchase as a token of your visit to the ship as far back as 1921. There is much printed on the Last wooden whaling ship to have survived... It still floats proudly in Mystic Connecticut to this day. She was at berth in the New Bedford Harbor for quite some time, then off she went at sat at Round Hill Dartmouth, Mass then was sold to Connecticut seaport for $1.00 and went into a refitting and worked over to her beatifull and proud hull she once was... She hold's the record for the most whale oil ever caught at her time while at sea... If you ever get the chance to walk her decks, it's highly recomended. Here is a picture of the token I found yesterday. We found two of them ten minutes apart. Thanks for looking and enjoy our History....
