and this is just for ocean city beaches... rip off.. they actually have beach tag checkers walking on the beach asking to see your tag... and if ya dont have one.. you will be told to leave or the police get involved.. only in nj... and if you go to another beach in nj...ya gotta have a beach tag for that one too....

is it just me or are you ALWAYS bitchin' about how jersey sucks....... :tongue3:

My dad could see an OC beach tag checker a mile away. Quick, get in the water! We also had to change in the car. We never ate on the boards either. Dad says he's frugal, we call it something else. Except for Wonderland, I never really enjoyed OC until I went in my teen years without the family and hung near 54th St. for a few summers. My old substitute teacher used to run the ODI. We used to go every night for marshmallow milkshakes.

that sucks we dont have that down here in aus but i spose our day will come.

The old ones they use to issue were brass, I found 4 of them last time I was there. I have to agree $20.00 bucks is a bit extreem.

In all fairness to Bootybay, I think she has a valid complaint here. Are there going to be any public places available in the future? New Jersey if just the tip of the iceburg. Wait until they start charging an entrance fee to ALL parks nationwide, let's see if she is the only one complaining then. And to think I complained about Florida, at least we can use the beaches here for free (unless they have planted a condominium in front of the beach - all too common these days)

its been that way for years and not all beaches require them

ok fyrfighter I will rephrase it so everyone will be happy...the fees posted are for Ocean city beaches, however, there are a FEW beaches elsewheres in nj that do not require beach tags, BUT Ocean City, is Not the ONLY beach charging for beach tags... Now is everyone happy??? and Yes OC has been charging tag fees for years.

It is a legitimate gripe and for some people would cause a hardship .

They used to let you on before and after a certain hour with out the beach tags, wonder if they still do.
Also, I am an Administrator of a saltwater fishing website in the Northeast and the majority of over 10000 members are from NJ and I have not heard one who has not complained about the state the State is in. Most complaints are about the Gov.
I visit NJ very often, IBSP and have the annual buggy permit to drive the beach so tags are not an issue. But, I know elsewhere they are.

That's what we always did - get to the beach at daybreak, and leave when the counters opened up. Never had a problem, anywhere down the coast doing that.

We would spend the night before at a cheap motel a couple of blocks off the beach, get up at dawn, and hit the beach, go back to the motel, catch some ZZZ's, then head further south along route 1, all the way (sometimes) to Virginia. (Could hit 4-6 good beaches on a long weekend, as sometimes, we just crawled into the back of the truck for a few hours sleep).

Late afternoon until dark was the other end of the "no charge" spectrum.

at least you have abeaches to go to none around me :'( :'( :'( :'(

I am glad that I do have beaches near me...but I will end up buying a tag as my times for getting on the beach can vary so its best to be safe then sorry cause I would be the one to get nailed.. and often times I cant make it before the time frame of needing the tag and dont like staying late there due to traffic n all..

just fries my butt that folks that live here have to buy one...

In the unlikely event that I decide to go for a walk on a NJ beach..... What the heck's a beach tag?

:icon_pirat: :icon_pirat: :icon_pirat: :icon_pirat: :icon_pirat: a tag the alows you to get sand in your shoes? :tongue3: :tongue3: :tongue3: :tongue3: :tongue3:

a beach tag in the past has been a small hard plastic tag, with a pin on the back of it.. it entitles you to be on the beaches in ocean city while the life guards are on duty, if I am not mistaken I think its 9am to 5pm... otherwise prior to 9am and after 5pm you walk the beach freely.. no tag is needed.. of course this tag is only needed during the summer months..till labor day.

Yep - that's the deal.

Though, it used to be that there were a couple of motels and bars that would give you the tags for free. (and a few of the places to eat breakfast - but don't know if they still do that)
