In the unlikely event that I decide to go for a walk on a NJ beach..... What the heck's a beach tag?

a beach tag in the past has been a small hard plastic tag, with a pin on the back of it.. it entitles you to be on the beaches in ocean city while the life guards are on duty, if I am not mistaken I think its 9am to 5pm... otherwise prior to 9am and after 5pm you walk the beach freely.. no tag is needed.. of course this tag is only needed during the summer months..till labor day.

Leave it up to NJ. How much do they cost and do you get a ticket if you're caught without one during the "lifeguard" hours?

ok fyrfighter I will rephrase it so everyone will be happy...the fees posted are for Ocean city beaches, however, there are a FEW beaches elsewheres in nj that do not require beach tags, BUT Ocean City, is Not the ONLY beach charging for beach tags... Now is everyone happy??? and Yes OC has been charging tag fees for years.
snippy aren't we :icon_scratch: MOST beaches have the tag program,I agree its a pain in the you know what, but complaining about it 54 yrs after it started does nothing...just do what I do...don't patronize Ocean City..the only beaches that do not charge a users fee in South Jersey that I know of are Wildwood Crest,Wildwood,North Wildwood and Atlantic City...OC,Brigantine,Sea Isle and Cape May all charge a fee

Fry, if I sounded snippy at you..my apologies, I didnt like the one comment posted by Edde.. nor do I feel like fighting with him either. :icon_scratch:

Fry,I dont travel much so ocean city beaches are it for the time beings which is fine by me.. so to cover my butt I will have that beach tag ...

some asked if they ticket you for not having a tag..or something to that effect...you will be asked to leave the beach and purchase a tag up on the boardwalk.. if you do not leave the beach they will have you escorted off.. stupid..but thats what they do..

Yes, a majority of the hotels will provide beach tags for ya too.. just make sure they do when you make your reservations..

I have never heard of beach tags....and I hope Va Beach does not ADOPT this! I rarely go to the beach from Memorial Day to Labor Day anyways....can't stand being around all those tourists!!! If I go...I take the kids and myself after 5 pm or before 10 am (so I don't have to pay for parking!) ... But being a VB resident...parking is only a buck! But if you get to Croatan Beach before 10am...parking is free, regardless if you are a VB resident or not! But I only go to metal detect, the boys swim and play in the sand, sometimes they help me dig!!

If tags were required here....I WON'T be hitting the beach at all! I want to move to the mountains anyways! This city has taken all the fun away from going to the beach!

Whats the deal with driving on the main street before the boardwalk?---if you drive the strip one time...your browsing--if you drive the strip more than one time in a certain time period...your a criminal and get pulled over

i was in virginia beach 2 yrs. ago and couldnt understand that law

Oh believe you me.... not many are happy with this...several years ago, they put in effect along with cameras...that if you are seen crusing the strip more than twice, you will be tickted.

I remember when I first came here in 1978...cruising the strip was the best and parking lots were still dirt!!!

Alot of store owners complained and the locals that live at the oceanfront....and also, we use to be able to park on the side streets...now if you don't have a city permit (you have to own or live in a house at the oceanfront for a permit) and park on the side street ... you will be ticketed. I guess if I lived at the beach, I would be upset coming home from work and not being able to park infront of my house...thank goodness I live a good 10 min drive away and I park in my driveway anyways!!! And if you have family coming in from out of town, you have to get them a permit also!

Heck, store owners complained and now there are signs for NO CUSSING!!! Whatever happened to the NO SPITTING signs? LOL

I really dispise going to the beach from Memorial to Labor Day weekend....it truly is a mad house...I always tell folks to come in Oct...or April (but it rains alot in April...we are on day 5 now I think .. of rain).....just come between Labor Day and Memorial Day (warm days when you can...it's better).

This city has grown to big for it's britches...I'm ready for a view from on top of a mountain!!!

heres a kicker too, every summer without fail.. at least one beach on the jersey coast makes the news, sometimes its shut down or just warning the folks that medical waste and needles are found on so and so beach... tell me thats not scary and gross..

during tourist season, parking is super tough ( common sense on that one) your lucky if you can find a meter spot.(but you have to keep running back every two hours to load your meter up lol). but to drive into one of the lots ( paid parking) last summer was anywheres from 5.00 and up.

OH, I know what you mean on the parking fees (thank goodness for a local addy to save us some bucks in the city parking lots, not the private ones)

Maybe with the gas prices this summer, we won't have that many tourists or many on the road!!! Wishful thinking I guess. :-\

Geesh

thanks for the insight

i'm good here in NY ....we can cuss, spit, and sing in the shower without getting ticketed or jail time---then again it could all change tomorrow

I miss NY....Jones Beach was my hangout in the 70's....have a cornbeef on rye with a big fat kosher dill pickle for me!

GO METS!!!

With my hubby retiring soon, we want to go back to a small town.. Its just gotten outta control here, housing going nutso, thousands n thousands of new homes built, costing 400 thous and up.. and NO LAND..these old roads and bridges in this once small resort area were not made to handle the heavy traffic it now sees due to the growth here.. heck once tourist season starts its gonna be 10 x worse then it is now.. They have started building a new 9th street bridge going into ocean city.. its not done yet.. the beasley point bridge has been shut down for a long time now.. and the funniest part is..with all this growth here.. every year school are being added onto, yet thats not enough so the kids have trailers to go to for some classes.. it just never stops..

I am just hoping that the economy gets better so we can sell and move to a quiet area again... and I seriously look foward to it..

Bootybay...

I feel the same...I remember in '78 when I was first stationed here. The beach was so much fun! The country roads, the farms. Those "Mom and Pop" shops were everywhere.....I think the only place that is still somewhat country is the Pungo/Strawbridge area here....but even in some of those areas are starting to grow with shopping malls. Even going to Dam Neck base was all country roads...it was so beautiful.

Had I known, or had a glimpse of what laid ahead..I would have taken more notice to the things around me and taken lots of pics of how it was in the "yesteryear"...it would have been great for my book....but that is all gone and progress takes over.

Where the Pembroke Mall area is...is now consider the NEW downtown Virginia Beach...they have several tall buildings now....walking through those buildings reminds me of NYC. I have nothing against NYC....I am from there...but I moved away because I wanted the country feeling...but it's going away so fast.

I will say this....they close the military bases here...this town would shrivel....it would die over time. This area, with all the active duty and those of us who are retired (myself included)....add alot to the economy here and sometimes, I feel we are just their income. I remember when just about every place around here gave military discounts (mostly for active duty)...not no more!

The cost for a young couple to even rent a one bedroom apt is ridiculous!!!

I want a nice little house, nothing big (getting to old to do all that housework LOL)...somewhere in the mountains with an awesome view! You don't know how much I want out of this place. Only 7 more years and the youngest is out of school....gives me 7 years to make my escape from the rat race!!!!!!!! LOL

So Bootybay, I really feel as you do....the traffic, the people, the overcrowding.....Montana ... Nevada ....are sounding so good to me right now!!!

Have an awesome day...it's a Calgon Day!!!

Hi , new york suck to ! you need a permit to go to the state beaches the town I live in you need a permit to ! NJ & NY all ways find a way to TAKE your MONEY ! The beach should be free for all people BUT THE STATE NEED your MONEY.... :tongue3: :-[ :angry4: :angry4:

I went to Playa del Carmen on my honeymoon five years ago. We went on the ferry to Cozumel and could see the bottom in twenty feet of water the entire trip across. It was then that I was so grossed out by Jersey beaches that I have never returned. I refuse to pay for a beach tag to swim in a cesspool. It's the same water, how can it be so dirty? I also find it hysterical that when a beach is closed due to some sewage problem, the next beach down is OK. Can't close all the beaches like in Jaws. It's how people make their money to live on all year during those three months. I can join a pool for the whole summer for the same price as a weekend at the beach without the jellyfish or horseflies. It seemed like everyone had a summer place in OC, Cape May or Wildwood growing up. We are only 1 1/2 hours away. Now I don't know anyone with one. The whole situation just seems a shame.

I spend a great deal of time a year, all year long, on the NJ shore surfcasting, IBSP and the bays out back in a kayak. No, I don't see it as bad stated above but, its not the cleanest area around.
Although, I have caught allot of trash when I used to fish up around Sandy Hook.
I think even though its the same ocean, its the population up north and the actual dumping of garbage in the north east ocean.
Maybe people just stopped caring and don't mind walking the beach and just dropping their trash as they go. I know when fishing I will police the areas I fish and always have a trash bag near by.
MAYBE, the money from BEACH TAGS should be funneled into keeping NJ beaches clean... There's an idea., Maybe people should just care a bit more about their environment.
As of now, I will still frequent the Northern NJ beaches for fishing and MD'ing,,,, swimming, that's another question.

Gimmie all your money is the state motto

On my trip to florida the beaches were free and alot cleaner and had more to offer then NJ

this is yet another jersey political attempt to milk money out of its residents and not do anything to improve its envirement I dare say there are more superfund sites in this state then any other in my city alone there are 5 . Then there is the state lottery for the roads and schools. Has anyone here gone down any highway dodging debris and massive potholes. And those that have children well they cut back on all after school programs as well as project supplies and trips. So do we have a right to complain u bet

and move u bet as soon as i can

well Bill, as you know, anyone that sells their home in nj, leaves it... remember the fool gov. wanted have a exit the state tax for selling your home and leaving nj.. ( he wanted to have, are ya sitting down for this one, right at the settlement table a 10,000.00 fee taken out for leaving nj.. I told my husband, I would go to jail first before I paid that..luckily it didnt get passed.. another brainer here...sheez.. at this point its funny..
