What about v3i?

Very good detector, probably one of the best in the hands of an expert. As for difficult to learn, well if you want to take full advantage of its capability than it is quite difficult. You can use presets and that makes it easy but you won't be getting 100% of its capacity.

The v3i versatility is unmatched. That's for sure. Highly customizable

I really love my V3i, I rarely use my MXT except when someone else is coming along and needs a detector.

i dont think its gonna be a pain in the ass but u better be prepared to read lots about ur machine and learn. pretty much everything is customizable so u gotta know what all the setting do and what happens when u change them

Piece of cake. I love mine. You can start out with the factory programs until you get the feel of the machine and then tweak to your hearts desire. Great info on the White's forum.
