What are they?

I?ve been hunting the same field for years and retrieved numerous items belonging to the inhabitants of this area, upstate N.Y. This time I thought about bringing along a metal detector to make a more thorough search for jewelry and colonial era coins. Sullivan campaigned right along this river, the Susquehanna. I detected the field for quite some time finding nothing. I noticed that the farmer added a few more feet to the edge of the cornfield and thought it a perfect opportunity to search before the other seekers from my area spotted it. These Green things caught my eye and the only explanation I got from a local historian is ?Oh those were dumped here by IBM back in the 40?s?. Okay, well, these were all that I found, clustered together in a two-foot area of soil about 50 yards from the riverbank. I personally can?t believe IBM would drive 30 miles to dump a handful of whatever these are in an open field. Any Ideas?

Thank you everyone that responded. I've learned quite a bit, since I joined. Give the description and pictures a chance and someone will find the answer. Since this mystery was solved I'll have to go search for another one. My TH partner stumbled onto a supposedly battlefield "private property" no Gov't involved, and found several buttons, an ax head, and a coin that he said is a half cent but the date was before the war? so maybe he stumbled onto something. Well happy hunting my friends and I hope to be talking with you in the near future.

YOU can see these on the t v program How It's Made all the time . There in a big drum with stamped metal parts and either tumbled or vibrated to deburr the metal parts. There made of ceramic and come in various colors and are uaually coned shaped.

The OP says they were dumped in the 40's so they are not Tritium.

I think the OP tested it for radio-activity. Hope the old surplus detector was working properly. So while its not Tritium, it may be one of the other things that glow in the dark. Illegal dumping always makes me suspicious.
