What are you smoking?

Funny you should be posting this.......Waaaaaaaaay back in high school, a buddy of mine had a crazy bong that we used to smoke out of and it was named....UNCLE MACK

I am always looking for their pipe when I'm in the woods. Seriously.

It is a line from the movie "True Grit" by little Mattie to the Duke when offered some corn liquor: "I will not put a thief in my mouth to steal my brains." Good advice.

A friend of mine has a large pipe like that. The thing is huge. I have a pic somewhere of it. It is an ancient pipe btw not from the head shop :tongue3:

I like that! Those, my friend are words of true wisdom. Liquor will rob a man of his mind. If only temporarily, a walking, talking, mindless man can cause catastrophic happenings in a short amount of time.

Gator, a dude came into see me at work today with 3 trade pipes. He was wanting $60.00 for all 3. He would not sell them as singles. He wanted them to stay together in this area. He said they were all made in VA. He told me the company's name, but I forget. You ever heard of a pipe Co. Out of VA. ?

Personally I haven't.. I'm sure there was.. and I understand his feelings especially if he was the finder. Pleasantville Ohio.. was a huge maker of them. This is the only example I own that may have come from there. All the rest of the ones I have found are British and were shipped here before the Ohio plant opened.

Did you buy them? Some are worth a good bit if they are unusual.

on an indian artifact post i'd have to say..indian hemp

No. Although, I feel buying things made by settlers in the new world is different than buying artifacts made by natives. He didn't have them with him either. He wanted an interested buyer before he started driving around with them. The more a piece is handled, the more likely it is to get broken. The way he talked, these were never used. Probably in the manufactures facility when it shut down.

Most don't fetch much money.

More of a colonial type antique than an artifact in my eye. You guys agree? I may take them off the fellas hands. He is a regular customer of mine that just wants someone to respect and cherish his collectables. He doesn't even hunt artifacts. Knows a lot of history. Revolutionary war, and civil war expert. He is aging and worried about history and corruption. He said $60.00 but money isn't his concern. He just wants the pipes together and their history to be known. Kinda sad.

Get pics and post them

Depending on their style.. material.. and even the size of the hole in the stem you can get an idea of how old they are. If they are common mold made pipes from the late 1800's they don't go for as much as 20 dollars apiece.

Will do. If I get them, I'm sworn to hold them type deal. I have an old bedroom suite I got on the same type deal. Made by Robert Mitchell Co. In Cincinnati OH. in 1879. Paid $1,000.00 for the whole suit. Been offered $20,000.00 by a lady that runs an antique shop. She would split them up for a profit. I turned her away with my story of promise to the previous owner. I'm building a house at present and will use the furniture. The pipes I feel should go to another local historian. Any way, topic is drifting.
