Went to an estate sale yesterday and bought a box full of old newspapers from WWII and in the bottom of the box was this patch. I would just like to know what branch of the military its from and is it a WWII era patch? It has an eagle sitting on the globe and an anchor. Also an "I" at the bottom. I think its probably Navy? but what does the "I" stand for?
Thanks for looking and any help you might have!!!
regards~~sandcreek

Actually it's a 2nd marine Air Wing patch with one of the I's removed. to make it a 1st marine Air Wing Patch.
The 2nd would have two II, and the 1st would have one I centered. Makes it a damaged patch. Yes it's WWII

If a number had been removed from this, wouldn't the threads be "disturbed" on the back--meaning fuzzy or lifted threads like the front is? The back of the patch shows no sign of having anything sewn through. It just looks like a mistake type of thing to me :icon_scratch:.
I'm not questioning your expertise, MilitaryCollector, just trying to understand why its like that? And I thank you for your information! And everybody else's, too!
kind regards~~sandcreek

You are welcome Sandcreek!

If there is indeed an error on the patch....Would it not fall under the "rare" category, such as coin mint errors?

Just a thought.

Tony--that's what I'm hoping for, that this is some kind of "mistake" patch and it would make it more collectible.
Thanks again~~~~~~~sandcreek
