What do You do with bent mangled dimes ?

I get a lot of bent mangled dimes out of my boxes. I don't want to jam the coin counters, So I take them out and replace with good dimes. I end up with a pile of misfits and rejects. I usually just roll them up ,mixing 3 or 4 in a roll of good ones, Then I cash them in as CWRs at my dump bank. Some are just pure trash and I throw them away. Is it possible to take them to a bank and trade in for new ones. I don't think so ?? I know you can trade in old dollar bills ,if you have both serial numbers intact. I have traded in old crusty saltwater bills found scuba diving for new crisp bills.

On a side note.... Many years ago,I learned not to dry out wet dollar bills in a microwave. Seemed like a good idea at first thought, until I smelled smoke and ran back to see my money on fire. Out of about 50 dollars I think I burned 23 dollars worth beyond redemption.

I get more mangled dimes than any other coin. I lay them on an anvil and straighten them with a hammer. Then I spend them, I don't put them in a coin counter.

I just dump all my dimes at my bank rolled just as I got them so I don't have to worry about what condition they are in since I don't use coin counters for dimes. But I do have that problem with cents & nickels since I use coin counters for cents, nic's, quarters & halves. I usually either try and spend the damaged cents & nic's or recently I dumped a few rolls of them at my bank. That is one of the problems with cents and nickels too because I do seem to find a lot of damaged ones - esp zincolns - and I don't want to risk them in the coin machines either. But just today I took a chance dumping a holed half dollar in the coin counter with my $210 in halves but the machine took it (and counted it because I was pretty sure I had $210 in halves + $250 in quarters & a box of nic's - minus the keepers & damaged ones)

"Some are just pure trash and I throw them away" Why do that? You paid for those coins. I'd just exchange them at the bank and let the bank through them away if they want to. Banks seem to like to throw coins away. I found 3 Canadian quarters on the counter next to the coin counter when I was dumping today and when I mentioned it to the teller she said - oh just give them to me and I'll throw them away. Then I said no I take them if your just going to throw them away and she said ok. At least I didn't have to search through the trash to find them this time. Too bad none were silver though.
