Hi All,

So I was looking over the (unfortunately, crushed) Spanish colonial thimble I found south of the border almost exactly a year ago (I described it in this thread if you are interested: http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/today-s-finds/586885-some-recent-finds-weekend-el-dorado.html) and either I'm going crazy or I see a MAP of North America above the crudely engraved name, "Catalina Peres." I'd appreciate if other members could take a second and tell me what you think from the 2 attached photos (the first is the real photo and second I traced where I think I see North America)?

Feel free to disagree but it looks like North America to me....

Experienced hands could straighten out the shape and it may give you a clearer picture. I do visualize your idea though...nice find!

Early NA Map for comparision

IMG_1990.jpg

This is a photo of an early map of North America that we had in the shop a few years ago. Some striking similarities to the "map" on the thimble, I think. It was in a set of books published in the 1730's, but the map engraving is from an older plate, I don't know the exact date when it was first engraved.

You should look for a tiny X that Mark's the spot. What a great way to hide a treasure map....put it on your wife's thimble....no one will look there !!

Have a jeweler straighten it as smallfoot suggested. I have done it myself, but your item is very nice, and with that I would not attempt a do it yourself project.
