I have someone who knows I CRH and get excited about Indian Heads. He has 100 of them, and wants me to buy them. What do you think circulated non key date just junk indian heads are worth nowadays? What would you offer him for 100 of them? I don't want to overpay, but also if I offer too little he will pass on the deal and not sell them. He says he'll let me make the offer, and then will agree or reject. And he will be fair or even lower than fair.

So what would you offer for them? :-)

ask for the dates and use the "blue book" as a guide

blue book is more "buy" price for dealers, red book is more "sell" price

Without a list of dates, $100 is pretty fair, maybe I would try for $85.

From what I understand a general rule of thumb with indian heads is that if the date is readable they are worth at least $1. So $100 for 100 is a decent deal if they were not cherry picked already.

I just saw a roll of 50 IH's get passed up on Ebay....$43.00 plus $4.00SH = $47.00 total

No bids. He has multiple 50 rolls available too. Wouldnt pay more than that if he says he wants more, when you can just get them online.

It really depends on the dates and the condition. Circulated with IH cents can mean a huge difference in grades. Sometimes they are no better than slugs, the other time they aren't in mint state but they are in pretty decent condition. In general, most IHs are worth $1 in readable condition.

As others have said it really depends on condition and dates. The best thing to do would be to search ebay a little to see what similair coins are selling for.

Good luck & HH

thank you. It seems like between 80 cents and $1 each is the consensus. :-)

That would be my ballpark offer. There is a guy in my town that advertises in the local paper - 10 Indian Head pennies for $100. Way too much for generic IHs. ::)

When I read your post, before I read replies, I was thinking $100. So maybe offer $80 and go up to $100 if need be.

There is a great site called PCGS Photograde Online.

I got it from someone here on treasurenet.

You can compare the coins to photos and get a very good idea of the grade.

Keep on Rollin' !

Hey GH, could you post a link to that auction? I can sell these for $3.00 a piece as long as you can read the dates. I have a display case full of coins at my local antique mall and I can't keep the Indian Heads in stock. Kids and new collectors love them. Thanks.

Any common Indian head cent in G-4 or better is worth at least a buck as long as it's not corroded, bent or holed. 50 bucks a roll is a good deal. It's a fun series for anyone to collect. :icon_thumleft:
