What does 916 designate...?

My hunting partner found a gold colored earring w/ diamonds (don't know if they're real or not) last month. It has 916 stamped on the inside. Could it be 22K as 24/91.6%=21.9 or something close to 22? I've never seen that on any other jewelry that I've found so far.

Thanks,

tb

While Standard gold is 24 carat (100% pure gold), 22 carat or 916, ie 91.6% pure gold and the rest includes metals like copper and silver.

Hey guys, thanks for the response. I drop her off after each hunt so I never get pics of her finds. What I'll do is get a shot of it and the rest of the rings and post them.

Thanks again,

Tim
