what does it cost ya to get 2 the beach ?

when folks post stuff its so ez to overlook the time

and money that goes into just getting to the beach.

for me a day of beach detecting cost about 18 dollars.

b4 i even turn on my machine. its 75 miles each way

and because the route goes thru several major towns

with lots of stoplights it takes 2 hours each way.

the breakdown is 16 gas and 2 dollar entry fee.

does this make me a diehard or pansy ?

how far or to what lenghts most go to get to the beach.

at least i get free parking !

did i mention that i got my boonie hideout. liveable

house on 3+ acres, for under $15k ..taxes are $310 yr.

7 beaches within 5-20 mins drive.3 more within 30 mins,all very popular during the summer here. My daily finds target is around the equivelent of $25...which i usually always hit, but haven't really been getting out much this year.
Parking is free for the most part,as are my yearly permits.

Closest beach to me is 1 1/2 hrs away, Miami is 2 1/2 hrs... Then parking... I drive a full size Titan, get about 18 miles/gal highway..
Bottom line, if I go 2 or 3 times and dont find gold, the hole gets pretty big... But then I usually find something that at least puts me back into the black..
But man oh man, TH has sure gone from "just a few" to "jeez, does everyone here own a detector?"...

well just to get there from home it is about 760 miles however when i get there we will be rving for 2 months. then its only walking distance to the beach each day and i hope with some hard work and a little luck i can find a little gold and help pay for the gas i used to get there. either way i will be having fun mding and enjoying the beach.

20 minutes to the beach, it cost about 3 bucks for parking, and 2 bucks for coffee, so I say about 6 7 dollars a shot, minus 2 or 3 dollars which I usually find, so we are sitting at 4 to 5 dollars a shot. That sure beats 70 dollars that gulf will set you back

BUT as far as valuable finds the BEACH WINS HANDS

to live on key west so i must assume u are already well

Scrounger, I love the beach and the lovely girls that decorate it. But I've never liked detecting there. Any clad or non-precious metal item you find is rotted badly by the salt. True, you stand a better chance at gold jewelry but not a big enough difference to make a difference to me.

I have no reason to detect for the money value of items found. In fact, I give everything I find away. All coins and all jewelry. Only once have a sold an item and that was a gold eagle of 1853 I found at Dog Beach in KW. Thing had been brought in with a sand load from Miami. This is the only thing I've ever sold and I was pressured into it by a friendly bartender who had to have it. So he got it for 400 bucks and I got a new table saw.

I'd much rather find a worthless V-nickel than a gold wedding band. The scrap value is not enough to get me excited. The nickel is history and effects me in a different way even though I'll end up giving it to friends who collect coins. (I don't collect anything)

I hunt mostly colonial home sites in my town and have made some very nice silver coin hauls over the years. One home yielded 27 silver US coins back to 1834. These light me up like no diamond ring on a beach could ever do.

I believe most people hunt the beach because you do not need to ask permission and it's very easy digging. A sand scoop makes it even easier. Nothing wrong with not working hard but the whole sand-sifting beach scene is not for me. I dig old silver coins mostly.

2.5hrs $25.00 in gas and several tolls....but it is sooo worth it to me. no i dont come close to break even but the relaxation is worth it to me.
The looks i get from the beach goers are priceless, does that count?

I hunt mostly local lakes so..$20+/-, including gas and food. But usually twice a year we work in a MD trip. Our first trip this year was a 1300 mile round trip, prob $200 in gas, unknown $$ for food, camping $75. We may not find enough to cover our expenses but we haven't come home without gold yet. Although it may take us to the last day to get it.

I live about 1.5 hours away from my favorite beaches in NJ. The tolls are about 5 bucks, parking usually free if you look around and gas, well about 15 dollars for a day. So far in 3 years of detecting I have gotten skunked about 95% of the time. It takes alot to figure out these beaches, then I think some old timers are cleaning them up in the mornings before I can get there. But all in all, I love the beach and it gets me away from my computers for some exercise and fresh air. Heck, people pay to go to a gym, I get mine walking for miles and lifting a wet sand filled scoop all day!

WOW. For us it's seven, count em seven hours of hard fast drivin. Glad the speed limit was raised to 80 mph out here. But 200 miles of it is 70 so we "hammer down" every chance. Goin next week and CAN NOT WAIT !! aaahhh
