What has 12 hard drives, 14 sticks of RAM, 4 CPU and weighs 150 lbs???
It also only cost me $15

answer: 3 old servers.

these things were pretty big. good thing the seller had the teen boys to load them in my SUV.
Yesterday (sunday) I drove to my local lake/park and disasembled them.

Today I took the cases to my local recycler. Total 111 lbs got me $2.13

The mother boards are huge. like 24" x 24"

*fingers crossed* pentium pros processors?

do you recycle many PCs?

What do you think the AU recovery will be on those bad boys? How much weight do you think it will be. Guess before you do it! :)

Were the cases plastic? Because if they were metal and that was all you got you got ripped. Are you planning on sending the other parts out to one of the e-scrap dealers? I have some recommendations I can make if you want to msg me.

Before scrapping computers make sure they don't have value as spare parts or as a collector item

$2.13? You got robbed. PC boards are worth a lot more than that.

I never thought about "e-scraping"...are there any websites out there that explain how to do it and the amount of money you can make from doing it. Average price paid for computers, cell phones, i-pods, etc. I find cell phones and other small electronic equipment all the time with the detector. They are usually too toasted to find a owner so they usually go right into the trash.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
NJ

BTW good luck with the purchase.

Have you tried doing a search here on TNET? I remember someone talking about it not long ago and they even gave a link to a couple companies and the list of prices they paid each type of e-scrap.

This isn't cyberdan's first rodeo. The $2.13 he is talking about was for the scrap steel. He has a place he sends the motherboards & other similar items.

Jason,
I have not searched anywhere yet. I'm at work now but tonight I will do a search on T-Net...thanks.

Yes, Dan is showing off his finds, not asking for advice. He knows what he is doing.

I never thought about "e-scraping"...
I e-scrap all the time. I am very close to buying my 10,000th cell phone.
I also do computers all the time. (pull out all boards and drives and plugin cards)
I get $3 lb for green boards and plugin cards.
(I will get a lot more for RAM & CPU I am saving and have a box full)

Gold is down now and it is $5 lb for phones, it is usually $6 lb I will not be selling any phones till price goes up or i find another buyer. Just got a check for around $450 for phones and expecting one in a few weeks for around $550.

What site do you use to e scrap?

that's awesome man ,way to go on precious metals recovery. Do you buy the phones in bulk?

A few quick questions: Approximately how many phones equal a pound? Do I-pods have scrap value? Is it worth taking the memory cards out of the phones before scraping them? Where does one buy old phones from?

Thanks in advance.

One more: Any value in old or broken digital cameras?
