I really don't care for foreign coins myself; I don't collect 'em and if they are non-silver I give them to the kids rather than throw them out.
I do find lots of silver Canadian coins that I keep. ffd

Yes,
I absolutely do. But I don't hate them as much as most. I think they break up the monotiny of finding nothing but the same ole clad. Some of them I plan on using like the Canadian coins (as I have family in BC) and some I use yearly in Europe (euros). Some can be quite valuable as well. I recently found another use out of luck. The town I am moving to has a restaurant that has a large counter top covered with foreign and domestic coinage. There is a few old american silver coins on the counter. I am thinking of making friends with the owner and trading some of my foreign junk for real keepers. He is not a collector but does it for novelty. So I do think they can be neat and useful at times. What I do hate is getting buttons or washers instead of real coins.

Actually, I look forward to finding Canadian coins. I've enjoyed many trips throughout my life to Niagara Falls. I save them in a jar and call it my Niagara fund. It never amounts to much, but when it is full, I make a point of purchasing a souvenir with the finds. Just gives me an excuse to return to a place of fond memories.

I just spend most of them. :icon_thumright: No one seems to care. The large ones the come in half boxes are pretty rare around here so I like them when I find them. I have a three ring notebook full of them.

If I ever have my own coin shop, I will put them in the "junk box" beside the cash register, lol.

Aren't Canadian money worth as much as the US dollar of late?

I kinda like em, i keep them for their design. In a coin shop around my area, they sell Canadians in common dates, 80s, 90s and 00s, just because, well who knows! Maybe people buy them for their kids birth year or something, but they make money off them for somthing worth less than a cent U.S. money! ;D

M.F...... he he he

I actually like finding foreign coins. And so few and far in between that i get excited when I do. I have found some nice older ones as well.

I don't consider Canadian foreign because in Detroit it's right across the river and I can actually spend them there. but no one wants them here either.

I get lots of Canadian coin when I search smaller denominations like quarters dimes nickles and pennies. I save them up and my neighbor takes them from me when he makes his monthly visit to Casino Windsor. I actually make out on Half dollar bags that I buy off the machine at some banks because they sometimes contain $2 Canadian coins.

But as a whole I do take about a 5-10 % loss on Canadian coinage but at least I can use it. All the other stuff just gets tossed in a box for my kids.

I like foreign coins. I find canadians all the time, sometimes some silver canadians. Don't find many other foreigns coins though. I've got ahold of some pretty old canadian pennies and nickels.

Just about. 1 Canadian dollar = 0.950841 U.S. dollars.

wow..didn't how Canadians are worth more now.. I remember at one point long ago
1 U.S. Dollar = 1.40 Canadian Dollars. Of course that was like 15 years ago.

I've gotten mostly Canadian. Some of it silver. Most of the foreign coins I give to my grandaughter. A few oddities I keep.
One time I got a dime box with over 25 steel Canadian dimes. Wasn't too happy about that. Whats worse is finding nickels in customer rolled quarters.

I have a love/hate kinda thing with the Canadian coins MF, on the one hand I really like getting the nickels! especially the older ones, on the other we have the dimes, now I do not hate the actual coin itself, it's the way they look in those shrink wrapped rolls! if you look close you can tell it's Canadian, but for that second it fools me then dashes my hopes on the cruel rocks of no silver land, well that's when I am not a fan, I have only managed to find one so far that is silver, a 1943, and I think those are only 80% silver, as far as the rest of them I don't find enough to be bothersome, actually would like to find one of the older halves but doubt I will so....

Chuck.

If I dump $500 worth of dimes through the counter, I usually end up with a large handfull of steel Canadians....might be worthwhile to dump the entire virgin box to have it reject the silver. Never tried this, would make searching dimes that much faster!
