That is a green heron,their necks are long and spring loaded,they strike like a snake.

We have a green heron that frequents our ponds snatching the little mosquito fish & mollies. We call him Fred and get a kick at how sneaky he is.

We have Blue Heron up here, and when they're not eating salmon smolt
they're chowing down on moles and gophers.

Damn things fly up the river, at night, and they are constantly squawking ..and they're LOUD. Sounds an awful lot like what you'd think a pterodactyl might sound like.

We have the Great Blue Herons too and a Pterodactyl is exactly what comes to mind when hearing one.We have a bird called a bittern that looks a lot like a small green heron.

The City of Springfield is on the other side of the river,I don't go there unless I have to go to the V.A.This side wildlife galore,and I get the pics.

I see them quite often in the early mornings fishing,this young one was hanging around on my side of the river and decided to swim to the other side,didn't take her long to get there either.

I think this fella has stockpiled 10 pounds of nuts for winter.
