what is it?

found this next to a 1875 Indian head cent and we do not know what it was used for. It is heavy cast metal and i think it was plated with gold. Wish i could have found the bottom of this . Thanks for any help.

I have looked at several daggers and have found "pommels" similar but not exact. I would also like to add that it could be from a letter opener also.

It looks like white metal underneath. If it is whitemetal, then it wasn't in the ground that long, as white metal deteriorates quickly. The fairly crude casting marks, and the fairly modern looking cut of the diamond seem to suggest it is something not particularly old.

Thanks for the new pics. I thought it was hollow all the way through. Now I think it looks like a fancy top to a vintage cut glass crystal perfume. It looks like plated pot metal and the diamond logo fits. Just something else to think about.


The hole on top would be for a tassel perhaps.

I'm still gonna stay with a small knife or dagger pommel, most likely from a trinket or novelty knife. Looking at many pommels, I have seen some that have rings or tassels attached.
