Hey Guys, you know if I'm posting something on here than I'm REALLY stumped. I dug this today in a spot where I and my diggin buddy have dug a TON of 1700s; Pre-War up through Civil War relics, buttons, etc. In addition quite alot of Spanish Silver.... It is near a beach that was used from the 1600s right up through the early 1900s for loading and off loading of goods from frigates, and other ships-of-the-line after they had made there Trans-Atlantic journey from England to Virginia and back. Also as stated, the area was all camps during the Civil War.......so to get to the item itself:
From my inspection, it has an iron pin much worn like the iron shank you'd find on a 1700s shoe buckle. The way its made leads me to believe that it was probably used on a leather belt or strap as an ornament. It looks as if the belt would thread behind the iron pin. SO, ANY help with I.D.ing this item would be SURE SURE Appreciated.
Thanks and happy hunting!
