It is a harness buckle cover aka buckle shield.

How old would it be I've never seen one I found it in nw Ohio thanks for any info

Specifically, it is a Wooding's 1892-Patent horseharness buckle-shield, made of stamped sheetbrass. The "crossbar" on yours is broken off. Here's a scan of the 1892 US Patent diagram, and a scan of a magazine-article identifying them. Yours is shown in the article photo at lower right.

Thanks I found it on a site I found a crotal bell and an 1898 Indian head, old ax head, 1893 o barber dime in the past. I'm assuming its old. I just got permission to hunt an area that use to be an old railroad and had a small town there in the 1800s it's only accessible by walking because its surrounded by planted fields. I can't wait to get out there.
