Found this buckle today . I never found a buckle with the prong on the frame. It's stamp solid bronze on the under side. Is it belt , boot or could it be horse harness related. Found at mid 1700's house sit that was live in until the 1960's.

Halter buckle?
Thanks Sanddog , I did check out halter buckles & did a google search & can't find any images of any type of buckle that has the prong on the frame like this buckle does.

I have had large belt buckles that operated in the same manner, but I seem to remember some piece of my horse tack that was similar. Been a long time since I had my horses though. Must be some knowledgeable horse folks on here.

There also appears to be what looks like to me to be a anchor mark on the under side.

Found similar buckle on WorthPoint with anchor hallmark. It's a military navy buckle.
