What is this big brass thing?

[Cool Hand Fluke]

It's solid brass and about 7 inches long. Both sides are identical. There is a pin on the top that allows the two connected pieces to swivel. I dug down 10 inches to get this out of the ground.
Found in a San Francisco park yesterday 5/10/14. What is this?

[bigfoot1]

I believe it is a furniture piece.I can imagine no other application....I am very jealous of this find....good one

[Indian Steve]

I believe it is the top of a vintage purse or change purse.

[Broken knee]

Could it be part of a hanging lamp? HH

Gonna have to agree with Steve, looks like an old purse clasp to me.

I'd double check that hole!
