Dug up in Massachusetts.Didnt think I could get a pic showing any of detail ...if you look at the 12 oclock position can see the date 17 then something was between the first set and second set of numbers reading left to right...top to English crown maybe?...but can see second 7,then to the left of date can see remaining letters EREX?Measures about 28-29 mm.

Very close,but whatever was in between the sets of numbers not quite that large,but does have the REX to left of date though.What is that coin in your picture?

It is a William the III silver coin. Picture from google.

That coin looks an awful lot like copper to me-- unless it was REALLY covered with dirt. But how about this for a possibility: 1773 Virginia copper halfpenny. That coin also has a split date on either side of crown.

This coin is larger than the Virginia copper and gap alot smaller,I was thinking maybe a small cross on top of a crown,no idea..heres a little better picPicture 314.webp

PERFECT!...Very well could be as button I posted on here is quite likely a French Navy officers button, and I found that about a mile away...in the middle of Massachusetts,who knows what youll dig up..kinda sad as was 4 other coppers and a 1778 1/2 reale I dug out of same hole but other coppers are toast and a couple different sizes so could be anything.

Think nhbenz nailed it,can make out an LU on opposite side and thats all I can see,has to be and the SOL is 30mm, mine worn so would account for the 28-29 mm i got.
