Hi everyone,
I found this item at a house built in 1800 in Groton, MA. It's brass or bronze (non-magnetic). No writing on it. It looks like a lid to a big salt/pepper shaker. Seems like its some kind of filter, with all the holes. Any thoughts?

maybe a flame spreader to a camping stove ?

Maybe part to an old percolator coffee pot?Actually now that I looked at it more I see the center has a slit where a wick would have gone so I change to a storm lantern part.

It may be the lid to the water container that people used to use to iron with (sprinkle water on clothes while ironing to remove wrinkles).

Looks like an old oil lamp part where the wick comes up through.

Wow, thanks for the ideas, everyone! I will follow these leads and let you know if I come up with anything definite.

Thanks everyone! I agree with your idea -- part of an oil lamp burner.
