Hey guys, I posted this on the today's find, but i've had better luck in the past on the bottles forum. I'm trying to figure out what this lid was for? I found it at an old homestead that I have been searching that has produced many items from the late 1800's and early 1900's. The initials FF are on the top and I can't seem to find any info from the web about it.

Sorry, yeah lol I have to use my phone camera and it's not great. I was hoping you would know since you have answered my questions before, but I will try and come up with a better photo

I think it may be Fruit Fly Company

Ok here are some new pics. Hope they are better.

Hey mreese,

Slightly better. What is the material? Is it stoneware? Might be for a Weir Patent closure or lightning type. What is the diameter?

sounds weird but, about the diameter of a ritz cracker lol. Not sure what metal it is, but it is pretty heavy and wasnt discriminated as iron on my metal detector. It has two threads so it obviously was a lid for something, but for what I have no clue. I was hoping someone had seen it before.

No idea what it is but I think that it was something that was meant to be pretty tight. Those two slots look like some barrels in the oilfield do. You stick something flat through them and you can tighten it a lot more than by hand. Just a thought. Could be way off.

Any possibility that it could have came from an old metal milk jug? I tried finding out what ff meant and the only thing I could find was farm fresh.

I found lots of meanings for FF but all of them were way off base. Fast food, fast forward etc.

Hey Mreese,

I don't think so, if it's the size of a Ritz. Where is it threaded?

Milk cans generally have lids almost the size of small hubcaps.

I think josh is ion to something. In the original pictures i didn't see the "slotted wings" on the top. So if it doesnt discriminate out on the detector and is very heavy, it is either brass or bronze. It could be used as a gas cap for a natural gas line, a fuel tank, or even a radiator

wow I didnt realize milk jugs were that big lol
