Cool thing.

It’s from India (most probably) or somewhere in that region with a Hindu population. These are given as ‘prosperity gifts’, used as devotional items and commonly as centrepieces in home altars. Here’s one on Etsy (overpriced, I think):

They’re usually carved from a type of black limestone found in southern India known as ‘Kadappa/Kadapa stone’ although it doesn’t take on a truly black appearance unless it’s polished after carving.

I believe stone/resin moulded equivalents also exist.

I was back at a thrift store and I found this decorative round object. It has carvings surrounding it, and the top and bottom. It's solid and quite heavy, maybe 2lbs. or so. Is it old, thoughts on where it might be from? Thanks so much!
Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Wow, it does feel heavy, like a stone. I certainly could use some prosperity! I guess it's not very old, more like a decorative ornament I gather? Good info, thanks so much!

Trying to make out the 4 figures on top of yours but can't yet. Kind reminds me of tribal aso motifs

Did you picture all of it? Top , bottom, yes. But goin around not all images depicted are shown or clear. I'd like to see more.

Are they called Chennai or chincha? Or something along those lines
