Does anyone know what is going on in this photo? There are pictures hanging on the house one is a portrait with a American flag below it. Along with others and a desk outside as well

Thanks DC that is the picture I was trying to figure out and why it was there as well

I'm guessing a dedication to a one room schoolhouse with the students, parents and teacher pictured with the new school in the background. Just my guess but it is a cool pic!

Where are the old folks, the babies, mommies and daddies ? ... they are in the "audience" behind the photographer.
Who is in charge, here ? ... the photographer.
EVERY face showing ? ... check
Elementary, Primary, and Secondary all carefully tiered front and center ... check
Big wigs forefront on the edge ? ... check
Teacher (allowed) to stand proud with big wigs ... check
Grandma and family who donated the land forefront left ... check

After the grub, (are two older girls wearing aprons ? ... and one wife made her husband pack the high-chair) ... after the grub and the kids have messed up their clothing, everything gets moved inside.
The desk goes near the paddle on the wall.
The kid with the frog in his pocket notices this.

One feller has a jug in his wagon ... the three men with flasks under their coats are happy to know this ... one wife will wait for the ride home to bring it up, but her husband won't remember.

What a picture can do stopping time and there forever for our imagination of what it would of been

With all those smiles, I think they were just told..."There is no BBQ"

WAG here, but perhaps the school is assembled for a memorial to President Garfield? If it is in fact in Ohio, and after 1881 (as per the McGuffey poster), it could be the day his body arrived in Cleveland (Sept 25, 1881). It could also be a dedication of a school in Garfield’s honor. His memorial was attended in numbers close to that of Lincoln’s.

Interestingly enough, Alexander Graham Bell tried to find the bullet lodged in Garfield’s abdomen with a primitive metal detector.
