My dad found this under a tree on his farm. It has 2 six point stars, with a single hole in the center of each star. I have found no makers marks, or any identifying marks/symbols. Its about the size of a belt buckle. It is about thick as a CD jewel case give or take. I've heard it could be a decorative piece for building , or off of a piece of machinery.
Here is a picture to help.

First off, welcome to Tnet Commanderklank.

I'm not sure what your piece is, but I'm gonna post the pic here so that its easier for the fine folks here to see and get you an ID.

What does the back look like?

Need more information such as where geographically was it found, state? nearest metropolitan area, and the like. Being found on a farm doesn't mean that its farm related...

Similar plates were used in cities like Boston, Philly, etc, to identify Building Fire Insurance Companies...

Looks like horse furniture to me, two holes to rivet it to leather on a fansy Western bridle or the like...

3 AND 3/4 INCHES !thats pretty big for a saddle. and it would have to be a large piece of furnature.

the horse brasses in the UK are mostly over 3 inches, they went on the martingale & not the saddles.

That back of the item is plain. No stars or markings, only the 2 holes. The object was found on my dads farm north of Chillicothe, MO. Chillicothe is probably closest to Kansas City, MO.

Are those inset stones in the stars on both sides? Seems to be some coloration there... -Noodle

There is no stone on this piece, it is all solid metal. Either it be steel, iron, or something else.

still looks like a decoration plate from an old wood stove.

Insignia of rank plate for a major general? Maybe attached to a carriage or vehicle? Monty
