Yeah, on second look the hole runs up through the back not vertically so maybe a hoe or possibly the back of a pickaxe?
Still nice find though!

Could it possibly be a lock latch for on a crate of some sort ...maybe ammo... such kinda guessing but looks similiar to one i found a hinge lookin thing of some sort once..

Without better photos from more angles and size reference I'd say part of a latch also.
