Found in kentucky and have no idea. Dont think its quartz.

Appears to be a tourmaline crystal with some pegmatite attached. Nice find.

Yep. DDancer's right. That's a super nice piece of black (shorl) tourmaline you got there. Found a few nice pieces myself this past year. Go back to the spot you found that piece and you should find some more.

My guess was scoral as well.
